If anyone had trouble finding someone to assist with this exercise, a barbell with 45's fixed at about mid thigh height on an adjustable barbell cage or smith machine with a thera-band or other pad in between your ankles/lower leg and the barbell seems to work. I felt weird asking for help with this exercise. Maybe someone holding the ankles down would work.

How about using a back extension apparatus, but lie sideways, instead of prone?

That'd be great. They only have the slanted back extention at 45 degrees at my gym, not a flat one.

I have been able to do this exercise by positioning my feet under the bench, one on each side. Like Michael, I generally prefer not to have to ask for help in the gym, but if a nice looking woman ever volunteers to hold my feet or otherwise spot or assist me, I probably would swallow my pride and allow it.

LOL! Yea, I tried scissoring the bench with the legs. This particular bench didn't provide a good place to hold onto with the legs.
